Valve is a video game company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, with a reputation of attracting high-tech gamers. When partnering to design the Steam controller packaging, we wanted to design a box that had a high-tech approach and environmentally friendly components. Had to be environmentally friendly and showcase the product with a high-tech approach.

We began by testing materials to make sure they met Valve’s aesthetic requirements and were strong and flexible enough to hold the controller and gaming console. The final design uses biodegradable PaperFoam™ for the tray, which nestles into the custom Neenah paper laminated shipping box.
